  1. For me, the absolute must-do in Kirkenes is the hovercraft trip. We did this is in January- it’s fairly new but barely anyone seems to know about it, which is a shame as it’s an experience that is unique in Scandinavia and almost unique in the world. The trip leaves from near the Snow Hotel and travels the length of the fjord- great scenery and a great host (the pilot is the owner of the hovercraft) but what makes it special is the mode of transport. Hovercraft as a form of commercial travel has almost entirely died out, and outside of the one or two remaining commercial services, the military, SAR and a very few remote Arctic communities in Canada there are very few opportunities to get near one. Worth doing for the novelty factor as well as the opportunity to travel far to the end of the fjord with only one or two other passengers.

    1. Whoooooa I had no idea about this! Thanks for the tip! I will likely be back up there this summer and NEED to do this. I didn’t even know what a hovercraft was until I just googled it :D Definitely down to do this when I’m back. Thanks again and happy travels to you!
